After studies at Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and at Musikakademie der Stadt Basel in Switzerland, Karin Dornbusch has become an increasingly sought-after clarinettist both inside and outside her native Sweden.
Since her break-through as winner of the Soloist Prize in 1996, she has performed as soloist with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Zagreb Symphony Orchestra, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Kammerorchester der Basel Orchestergesellschaft, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping's Symphony Orchestra and Musica Vitae under conductors such as Armin Jordan, Pavle Despalj, Daniel Harding, Petri Sakari and Arvo Vollmer.
In 1997/98 she was chosen to participate in the concert series of the European Concert Halls, "Rising Stars", with performances in Vienna, Birmingham, Frankfurt, Athens and Stockholm.
Karin Dornbusch is also a very active chamber musician and has a broad repertoire, ranging from classical to contemporary
music. Her playing of the classical and romantic music is thus rendered complete by her acclaimed participation in contemporary music ensembles such as Ensemble Modern and Klangforum Wien.
After two enthusiastically received CD recordings with Caprice Records her third record, "Nordic Clarinet Concertos", rendered her the Swedish "Grammis Award" nomination as Soloist of the Year 2007.
Karin Dornbusch is one of the three artistic directors of the Camerata Variabile chamber music ensemble in Basle. Since 2006 she is also the artistic director of Båstad Chamber Music Festival.
