8 – CONCERT Family concert – Get thee to where the pepper grows! – a musical discovery journey

The ensemble tells the story of three explorers who set out to find out where pepper grows, i.e. to India. Only one of them survived to reach the goal. With spice prices in Europe soaring Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan and Christopher Columbus tried to find the sea route to India, and thus bypassing robbers and customs collectors. With maps and music the public follows the ensemble across perilous seas toward India. Who made it?

15 – LECTURE The composer of fairytale castles meets the musical public – Joseph Haydn in England of the 1790ies

His meeting with the economic and cultural hothouse atmosphere of late eighteenth century London released an enormous creative force in 60 year old Haydn. In this lecture we will be given musical illustrations, but also make the acquaintance of musical personalities of the time, among them the Swedish diplomat Fredrik Samuel Silfverstolpe. We will also witness how the son of a wagon-maker is promoted Doctor at Oxford, and meets the love of his life.
Lecture by Jan Ling, Professor Emeritus of musicology, Gothenburg University.
